Marc Zubel is currently registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientist BC (EGBC) and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological Engineering from UBC. He has nearly 40 years of experience in groundwater-related resource investigations and evaluations; groundwater supply development; contaminant investigations with provincial government and consulting industry; groundwater education; management of technical staff; knowledge and application of various groundwater-related legislations.
Marc’s work experience initially began in the consulting industry assisting in hydrogeological site investigations of various mining activities in B.C., Sask., NWT. He then worked with the BC Ministry of Environment’s Groundwater Section in Victoria conducting various site and office evaluations of local and regional groundwater resources; supervision of the provincial observation well network; reviews of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports for various resource developments and participating as expert witness at Environmental Appeal Board hearings. His next arena of work experience brought him to Edmonton as a Senior Hydrogeologist with Alberta Environmental Protection’s Hydrogeology Branch, where he continued to hone his expertise in hydrogeological assessments; giving technical groundwater presentations to government, public task force and local municipal agencies and co-chairing an International Hydrogeological Congress.
Family and warmer weather brought Marc back to the Lower Mainland where he worked with the BC Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection as the Regional Hydrogeologist and including all the activities above, also participated on International and local stakeholders’ committees dealing with Nitrate contamination and aquifer protection issues in the Fraser Valley. More recently, Marc acted as the Manager of Fraser Health’s Drinking Water Program supervising the activities of staff responsible for the administration of provincial drinking water legislation to over 400 drinking water systems, including Arsenic in groundwater studies. Working afterwards with a water treatment company for a short time helped Marc to understand the various water treatment technologies available to assist in dealing with groundwater quality issues.
